America 250 State Commissions

Here are some examples from some of our SAR State America250 Committees. Your state can tell us what you are doing and your plans to help celebrate the upcoming event. Just email Michael at mlt@America250SAR.org

Massachusetts

1. We have ordered 45 Herbie Liberty (Elm) Trees (that are saplings of the 250 year old Yarmouth elm tree “Herbie”) to be planted all over the state. 2. Every Color Guard activity has the 250th Flag displayed. 3. They have acquired a cannon – and have fired it! www.massar.org

California

They have a newsletter each month that reports on events and have included the Rarities and This Day in History links; they are donating an America 250 flag to the DAR with pole and base, and will be presenting to their District meeting. Also they are working on Hispanics and African-Americans and notes that there is a book on their participation pending. www.californiasar.org

Texas

Sam Maxey and Larry Stevens attended the NJ State meeting and are going to be pairing with them on joint activities; they have 170 members on their Color Guard data base. They are starting in Galveston to commemorate Bernardo de Galvez and have enlisted the Spanish Consul in developing a “Galvez Trail” that will highlight his activities during the Revolution. www.txssar.org

Indiana

Their state has already started a State 250th committee with 32 members and has representatives of the SAR and DAR. They are going to receive $10,000 from the National America 250 Committee and have $125,000 and ultimately $150,000 earmarked for this by the State! Runners will be carrying torches through all of the Counties ending in Vincennes (commemorating the Battle of Vincennes). https://indianasar.org/

Ohio

Ohio has set up an organizational site and it should be coordinated with all the interested groups. www.ohssar.org

Virginia

They have a State 250 Committee with relationship to the counties and are getting chapters to connect with them and report grave markings and stories for specific localities. https://virginia-sar.org
